What we do
Our Company name is Qualitree see [Login to view URL] and we are building a customer community as a gathering place, a connection place for like-minded growers to connect with each other, find help, work together, solve problems together, etc. The gathering place is the online community and the name of the community is "Rhyzone" or possibly "The Rhyzone" (not sure at this point). Although we are a plant company it is not about the plants - it is about solving problems together, discussion would likely include technology and how to harness the power of tech to better serve each other. The members of the community are called "Rhyzers"... (because they always rise above... the challenge/issue/etc...) Just an idea and before you say... huh???.... I feel it needs an explanation... ???? .. read on... The name of the community is a play on the word Rhizome and understanding that may play into the design aspects to show connection. The logo would be used for the community as well as an app for iPhone and Android and also a Podcast will be started. Preferance will be given to something that is simple and pops (fancy complex logos with root systems, etc will not be chosen). You will note from our website that our current company color is a simple black and white. We have recently begun introducing some yellow to bring a pop of color in but are not firmly settled on the yellow yet. To help you understand how we love color and simplicity I'd point out [Login to view URL] as something we really really like. Here is some more background on the choice of Rhyzone: A long time ago, a very intelligent and passionate grower introduced me to the word Rhizome... ------- rhi·zome /ˈrīˌzōm/ noun BOTANY a continuously growing horizontal underground stem that puts out lateral shoots and adventitious roots at intervals. ------- And as a metaphor... ------- If you have ever tried to dig up a rhizome, you will know that it is virtually impossible to know where it started from and that if you break a root in the process, the plant is likely to spring up again somewhere else ------- And there is even something called a Rhizome Theory in Philosophy and as a model of culture.... ------- As a model for culture, the rhizome resists the organizational structure of the root-tree system which charts causality along chronological lines and looks for the original source of 'things' and looks towards the pinnacle or conclusion of those 'things.' A rhizome, on the other hand, is characterized by 'ceaselessly established connections between semiotic chains, organizations of power, and circumstances relative to the arts, sciences, and social struggles.' Rather than narrativize history and culture, the rhizome presents history and culture as a map or wide array of attractions and influences with no specific origin or genesis, for a 'rhizome has no beginning or end; it is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo.' The planar movement of the rhizome resists chronology and organization, instead favoring a nomadic system of growth and propagation. ------- So as a final word on this... the metaphor that came to mind was that as community of Rhyzers, who are like the Rhizomes of our community, they are the roots and the connections that create the sprouts/shoots/plants and the life that the rest of the world sees. Without the Rhizome, there is no life. And, since a Rhizome has no beginning end or middle point everything goes and all are equal in terms of contribution.
